For founders building a two-sided platform

Booking platforms look simple from the outside: a search box, a calendar, a pay button. Underneath sit the hard parts. Availability must never double-book, prices change by season or demand, payments must reach the right host, and listing pages have to be found in search. Generic booking tools work well for one business taking appointments. They struggle when you have many hosts, your own rules and a brand to build.

I build custom booking and marketplace platforms for founders and operators in niche markets: venues, rentals, activities, local services, and directories that want to move from leads to paid bookings. If you're building a different kind of SaaS product, SaaS & MVP development is the better fit.

Proof from platforms I've built

CautElectrician.ro is a two-sided directory. Electricians across Romania sign up for free and keep a public profile with their status, while customers search by county and city, compare profiles and send quote requests, with moderated testimonials building trust. It runs on Nuxt 4 and Supabase, with structured data so county, city and profile pages get found in search.

On Smiles Casino I worked full-stack on the player site of a US social sweepstakes casino, with identity verification (KYC), payment integrations and prize redemptions. That is the same kind of money flow a marketplace depends on: who pays, who gets paid, and what has to be verified first.

How I approach it

We start with how money and availability move: who lists, who books, when a slot is held, when it's paid, and what happens on cancellation. Those rules become the core of the platform, and they are tested before any polish goes on top.

The work then ships in phases. The first phase takes real bookings and payments. Later phases add host payouts through Stripe Connect, pricing rules, reviews or more languages. Each week you test new flows on a staging site. Checkout, invoicing and payment edge cases are covered in more depth under e-commerce and payments.

What affects the price

Booking and marketplace projects start from €14,000; you get a fixed quote after a short scoping call. The price depends on how complex your availability and pricing rules are, whether hosts are paid out through the platform, how many user roles and languages you need, and which integrations, such as calendars, maps or invoicing, are required.

How we work

  1. 1

    Discovery call

We map both sides of your marketplace, from who lists and who books to how money moves and where the platform takes its share.

  2. 2

    Phased proposal

You get a fixed-price proposal split into phases, starting with the booking and payment core.

  3. 3

    Build with weekly demos

Each week you test new flows on staging, from the first search to a paid booking and a host payout.

  4. 4

    Launch and growth

I deploy, watch the first real bookings closely, and keep building or maintaining the platform after launch.

Frequently asked questions

How much does it cost to build a booking platform?

A custom booking platform starts from €14,000 for the core, which covers listings, availability, search, Stripe payments and a host dashboard. Dynamic pricing, payouts to hosts, reviews and extra languages add to that. You get a fixed price per phase after a short scoping call.

Should I build a custom booking platform or use an off-the-shelf booking tool?

An off-the-shelf tool is the right choice when a single business takes bookings in a standard way. A custom platform makes sense when you run a marketplace with many hosts, need pricing or availability rules the tools don't support, or want to own the customer relationship and the search traffic. If you don't need a custom build, I'll tell you on the call.

How do you prevent double bookings?

Availability is checked and reserved on the server at the moment of booking, inside a database transaction, not only in the browser. A pending booking holds its slot for a limited time while payment completes, and hosts see changes in their calendar in real time.

How do hosts get paid on a marketplace?

With Stripe Connect, guests pay through the platform, your commission is kept automatically and the rest is paid out to the host. Stripe handles host identity checks and payouts. If your model is simpler, payments can go to a single account, with invoices issued per booking.

How long does it take to build a booking platform?

The booking and payment core usually takes two to three months, depending on your pricing, availability and payout rules. I split the work into phases so the platform can take real bookings early, while the rest is built on top.

Can you help my booking platform rank on Google?

Yes. Listing and location pages are server-rendered with Nuxt, with structured data and clean URLs, so search engines and AI assistants can read them. CautElectrician.ro, for example, combines county and city search with structured data and generated social images.
